I travel from Groningen throughout Drenthe. Assen offers city parks and the Asserbos as a green starting point. Meppel and Hoogeveen sit centrally as good bases. Emmen and Exloo open towards the north and east, with forests and rural farmsteads.
Heath walks and forest photography depend on timing. In summer I look for shade and soft afternoon light; in autumn I use heather colour and low sun. Sunset on the heath is popular for good reason: the light is warm and unhurried.
Dwingeloo and Diever are favourites for couples who want an atmospheric, rural session. Havelte and the Drents-Friese Wold combine lakes and forest in one area. We plan the route so you can walk without rushing.
