Overijssel photographs differently from the north. Where Groningen and Friesland are flat and open, Overijssel gives you elevation: the Sallandse Heuvelrug rises above the heath, lanes in Twente cut through hedgerow landscape, and the IJssel bends past Deventer, Zwolle and Kampen.
That relief changes the planning. On the ridge the sun stays above the horizon longer than in the valley; under the oaks of a manor estate the light stays filtered and soft, even around midday. In the Hanseatic towns I work with brick façades and quaysides that reflect warmly towards the end of the day.
